FastPIPE Bulletin APR/MAY/JUN 2005
From FastEST, Inc.
The residential version of FastPIPE is here! And it's being
well-received by those who have begun to work with it. If you'd like to
view it, call the office and we'll set up a Web demo to show you.
If you don't do residential work, you may want to look anyway. The
residential version includes new data on plumbing fixtures, which are
stored in there own module in the database. The number of fixtures is now
about 10,000, but will grow very quickly. If you do commercial plumbing,
the data may be helpful to you, as well.
I apologize for not getting the training session scheduled in the first
quarter as planned. We will be doing the training session this quarter.
I will be conducting a seminar entitled, "Estimating and
Profitability" at the PHCC Unity Conference 2005 in Chicago on
Friday, May 13, 2005. If you are attending the conference, stop by and see
me. (Conference info at www.uac-contractors.org.)

Residential FastPIPE Fills a Major Void
In marketing FastPIPE over the years, it has been apparent that
residential contractors could benefit from estimating software. Also, many
FastPIPE commercial users were active in both the residential market and
the commercial market. About 18 months ago, FastEST, Inc. began
development of a residential version, which can be operated as a stand
alone software package, or used in conjunction with the existing
commercial product.
The residential version differs from the existing commercial version in
many respects, but the main difference focuses on the handling of
assemblies and fixtures. While commercial jobs vary a great deal from each
other in their size and scope, residential jobs seem to consist of more
similar components from job to job.

FastPIPE's Residential Room screen can
provide an accurate material list in minutes.
FastPIPE Residential version allows you to copy full bathrooms, half
bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms; or any room, for that matter, that you
may have taken off previously. Even building rooms from scratch is made
very easy with a room layout mechanism that allows you to place your most
commonly used fixtures right where they go.
The fixtures themselves each include takeoffs in various Specs to allow
you to look at a job with different piping systems. The contractor can
load the fixture menu with his own catalog choices, so that his most
commonly used fixtures are on the menu. And fixtures can easily be swapped
out after the fact, in case a job requires a different fixture or in case
a homeowner changes their mind.
Some of the existing features in FastPIPE work well in the residential
version, too. Contractors can create templates of entire houses, including
takeoffs, to bid similar houses with minor changes in floor plan,
different fixture selections, or different utility services. This will
speed up overall time savings for contractors and provide good
record-keeping for managing the projects.

New Worksheet in the residential version
is tailored to suit the needs of residential plumbing companies.
